The client required their Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) platform to support a highly structured taxonomy: Record Type → Contract Type → Subtype → Contract Classification.
This structure presented two primary technical hurdles:
To maintain a sustainable system, the client required a solution that avoided hard-coded logic while ensuring 100% data integrity across all four tiers.

We engineered a background table where each row defines a single, business-approved combination of the four taxonomy levels. This table serves as the authoritative source for all valid contract paths.
Instead of building individual rules for every possible permutation, we implemented a linked-field architecture. The system dynamically queries the configuration table in real-time, filtering choices based on the user’s previous selection. This ensures that only compliant and approved options are available for selection.
By housing the classification logic in a table rather than in the platform's UI rules, we separated the business taxonomy from the system's core behavior logic. This allowed the platform to remain "clean" and easier to manage.

Taxonomy updates (adding or retiring contract types) are now managed via data entry in a table, requiring minimal technical intervention.
This implementation demonstrates that the most complex business requirements don't always require the most complex code. By treating contract taxonomy as structured metadata rather than a series of dropdowns, We transformed a potential maintenance issue into a scalable asset. This resulted in a CLM architecture that supports rapid organizational growth and evolving regulatory needs while preserving the integrity of a no-code environment.
The system proactively prevents invalid combinations, ensuring that 100% of contract records are classified correctly at the point of intake.
By eliminating nested "if/then" logic, the system is more stable and better positioned for future platform updates.
Users are guided through a streamlined selection process, only seeing fields and options relevant to their specific contract classification.
