And I think you just might be excited to see it!<\/p>\n<h2>How to Avoid A Losing Proposition<\/h2>\n<p>So I\u2019ve been going on and on about how beneficial testing can be for you and your business.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, I\u2019ve been trying my hardest to convince people to get free of their endless testing cycles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Let the developer develop.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Let the testers test.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And let the owners reap the benefits of the final product.<\/p>\n<p>I have been in outsourcing business for over 15 yrs. I have been a developer, then into consulting and now I run my own business I\u2019ve been in the business since the internet took off. My entire professional life, I\u2019ve worked closely with developers, and clients.<\/p>\n<p>And I use what I know to offer high-quality services, at a cost-efficient price, on a global scale.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t want to sound like I\u2019m bragging. But unlike most instant experts, I have been around for long enough to know what works and what doesn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>And I\u2019m telling you:<\/p>\n<p>Testing everything yourself is a lose-lose proposition:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are losing time.<\/li>\n<li>You are losing money.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(And it&#8217;s equally frustrating for your developers as they lose confidence over time).<\/p>\n<p>Case in point:<\/p>\n<h2>Sandy\u2019s Story<\/h2>\n<p>I want to talk to you about one of my clients. Let\u2019s call her Sandy.<\/p>\n<p>Sandy was running a small agency. She didn\u2019t have the resources to hire in-house talent and relied on outsourcing around the world. In her very first contact with us, she said, \u201cI don&#8217;t trust Indian developers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to her, quality just wasn&#8217;t there and we discovered that when she hires freelancers outside of US, she had to spend too much time on doing QA. She has worked with several of our competitors and was always frustrated.<\/p>\n<p>Like most small agency owners, in order to save costs, she figured that she could just undertake the testing herself.<\/p>\n<p>Pretty soon, Sandy was staying after hours, testing for 3-4 long hours a night, and providing feedback to her developer.<\/p>\n<p>Every time they thought they had something fixed, their solution would break another part of the software. Testing multiple small changes everyday and returning work back to developer slowed her agency down and frustrated her.<\/p>\n<p>There was never any one large problem. The exhausting work lay in searching for the tiny, overlooked details.<\/p>\n<p>Sandy kept missing her delivery deadlines.<\/p>\n<p>She started to rack up the costs.<\/p>\n<p>By the time she came to Capital Numbers to save her agency from endless development cycles, she was at her wit\u2019s end, exhausted and frustrated with outsourcing altogether.<\/p>\n<h2>The Truth About Testing<\/h2>\n<p>Sandy\u2019s story is very common in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>If you found yourself nodding along, or thinking that it sounds familiar, you aren\u2019t the only one.<\/p>\n<p>People start trying to test everything themselves to save money.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cCan\u2019t I just save money by doing it myself?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No.<\/p>\n<p>Professional testers are MUCH cheaper than developers. While your expensive developer is racking up the hours, you could be getting better testing done. You might even save 50% off the cost to test each individual part of the software piece by piece.<\/p>\n<p>Not to mention \u2014 you\u2019re losing productivity if you\u2019re trying to stay up and do everything yourself.<\/p>\n<p>The longer you stay caught in a testing cycle, the more you\u2019re missing out on the chance to launch other products that could see a better ROI.<\/p>\n<p>So while you might think you\u2019re saving money by not hiring a tester, you\u2019re actually losing it in other ways.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWait a minute, I thought I was paying the developer to test for me?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Well, the developer is testing for you.<\/p>\n<p>But the developer mindset is much different from the tester mindset. The developer is trying to make it work, whereas the tester is trying to \u201cbreak it.\u201d While something might work in theory, it might break under certain conditions. And developers can\u2019t be expected to think ahead to every conceivable event.<\/p>\n<p>Communication issues could arise. Even if you think you have clear communication, certain fine points might get lost. Miscommunication happens even between in-house teams \u2014 imagine how much worse the problem can be with outsourced work.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, if you\u2019re outsourcing a large project, developers might only test their individual part of the project.
