Eastern India has been historically hailed to be very strongly ingrained with the country\u2019s economic adventures.\u00a0 In fact as mentioned by economic historian Angus Maddison in his book, The World Economy: A Millennial\u00a0 Perspective, India\u00a0 had\u00a0 the\u00a0 world’s\u00a0 largest\u00a0 economy\u00a0 till\u00a0 the\u00a0 early\u00a0 17th\u00a0 century\u00a0 and\u00a0 Eastern\u00a0 India contributed 15% of the world GDP.<\/p>\n

But today Eastern India\u2019s contribution if still good is not good enough. It\u2019s 17% despite the demographic dividend, rich mineral reserves, the vast coastline and its close proximity to the East and South East Asian Countries.<\/p>\n

Eastern India has a lot of potential to be a headlining writer of India\u2019s growth story. To deliberate on this further the\u00a0 CII\u00a0 Eastern\u00a0 Region organized a conference on\u00a0 \u201cBuilding\u00a0 East:\u00a0 Driving\u00a0 Development\u201d coinciding\u00a0 with\u00a0 the\u00a0 Annual\u00a0 Regional\u00a0 Meeting\u00a0 on\u00a0 17\u00a0 March\u00a0 2016\u00a0 at\u00a0 Hotel\u00a0 ITC\u00a0 Sonar,\u00a0 Kolkata.<\/p>\n

We as an organization connecting Eastern India to the world saw it prudent that we attend the conference to discuss ways of promoting overall development in the region such that the benefits percolate to all sections of the society thereby playing an important role in India\u2019s development story.<\/p>\n

Apart from the conference, various other sessions like Good Governance, Taking Business of Entertainment beyond Boundaries etc. were a part of the Annual General Meeting as well. The speakers, some of the most eminent names in this part of the country shared intriguing and unique perspectives.<\/p>\n
